Tips For A Digital Detox

As we’ve become immersed in a digital world by spending time on devices by reading, watching, listening, checking emails, messages, social media, or other ways, taking a break from the screen for a stretch of time in this digital era is unimaginable. However not being able to unplug or take some much-needed break from the screen can negatively impact one’s well-being and cause imbalance in different areas of life.

Here are some tips that will help you limit the time you spend online and avoid checking your phone constantly without a reason to do so.

Mute Digital Notifications

Do notifications on your social media accounts get your attention throughout the day? By turning your notifications off setting aside a timeframe to check them and responding, you can save a lot of time that can be used for your wellbeing such as taking a walk or having a short break without being online. It also keeps you from distractions and helps you focus better.

Tech-free zone at home

Although technology is an integral part of our daily lives, it is necessary to intentionally create some tech-free zones that will help you unwind, spend your time mindfully, prioritize family time, or simply have a nap that will help you de-stress. This will bring about a meaningful balance between your time spent with technology and the time you set aside for your overall well-being.

Go out in nature, play outdoor games, sweat a little, spend time enjoying the fresh air, notice the birds, feel the calmness, and take a long walk to unwind, relax and recharge. Spending time in nature benefits your physical, mental, and spiritual health. On holidays, make it a point to plan a trip with family/friends and connect with nature as well as people.

End your day meaningfully

The blue light affects your sleep and it takes longer to fall asleep even when you’ve had a tiring day. Spend your evenings mindfully and spend some time away from the screen before going to bed, to avoid staying awake for a longer time. Rather than scrolling through the never-ending posts and updates on your phone, choose to end your day with mindfulness, and enjoy sound sleep to wake up fresh in the morning, embracing a new day with cheerfulness.

Take it one day at a time, and break away from the negative habits that keep you glued to the digital world more than you need to.

How do you manage to spend time mindfully, away from technology in a busy world? Do share your comments.
